doctor is measuring the pulse of her patient
Budget cuts had some wondering if a free medical clinic here in Bay County would survive into the next year.
The St. Andrew Community Medical Center received a $72,000 donation Tuesday morning from the Bay Medical Auxiliary. It couldn't have come at a better time.
Back in September, Bay County Commissioners told clinic officials they would not be getting their usual $125,000 in county funding. They said they were under the impression the Bay Medical Foundation would cover the costs, which was not the case.
So Tuesday’s donation from hospital volunteers of the auxiliary will help the clinic to continue providing part of their free healthcare services.
Dr. Delbert Summey is one of the driving forces of the St Andrew facility. "The Bay Medical Auxiliary has basically agreed to team with us and what they've done is they've committed the resources to provide the in-house pharmaceutical medications that we are going to be giving out in 2013 to our patients."
The clinic recently moved to an expanded facility at the corner of West Highway 98 and Cincinnati Avenue in St. Andrew.
