I know it is hard to believe, but there are now just 35 days until the start of the 2010 hurricane season! If Drs. Gray and Klotzbach at Colorado State are correct... it will be a very active season. With their April 7th Forecast they predicted....
They also predicted a 45% chance of a major hurricane making landfall from the Florida panhandle to Texas! The historic average is just 34%.
Regardless of how many storms we end up seeing... it only takes 1 storm to devastate a community and the people who call it home. Remember hurricane Andrew in 1992? 1992 was a very quiet season statistically, but tell that to the folks in S. Florida.
Now is the time to prepare!! Now is the time to get ready to keep you, your family, and your property safe if a storm does threaten our coastline.
As a result, WJHG is doing a HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS TOUR in 4 area counties.
Although we are making just 4 stops... I hope you will consider coming to one of those stops even if you live in another county.
The exact list of speakers for each location is still being finalized, but I guarantee you that there will be plenty of new things for us to talk about and plenty of opportunties for you to ask the experts questions.
Plus... there will even be some door prizes!!! How can you not come now?!?!? :-)
So, I hope you will consider coming out to meet us, learn about what to expect this season, and find out what has changed since last year!!
I look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Chris Smith
Chief Meteorologist, WJHG
