2010 Hurricane Season...

Yesterday was our 2010 Hurricane special that aired on Newschannel 7 at 6pm.  Kind of appropriate timing considering we have Boonie lurking out there!  I could claim genius, but sadly it was coincidence. :-)

In case you missed it, it will be on several more times on our various networks over the weeks head.  Make sure to check your listings!

As for Bonnie...  she is going to be a dud!  She is struggling quite a bit right now... and when the new advisory comes out in a few hours... she may not even be a tropical depression anymore.

The reason why is a persistent upper level low to her NW that is creating wind shear over the storm.  Remember, hurricanes like light winds aloft in order to strengthen and be healthy.  Bonnie has no such luxury and I do not see this changing between now and landfall Saturday night.

Here is what I see as being the impacts here in NW Florida...

The biggest threat quite honestly is going to be the rough surf.  I would recommend staying out of the water this weekend to be on the safe side.

Although some folks might say that this season has been quiet so far... it is actually pretty active... with 2 named storms before the end of July.  August, September, and October are when things really get cranking typically.

Still, with seasonal forecasts a couple months ago near 20 named storms it will be interesting to see on August 4th how Drs. Gray and Klotzbach at Colorado State adjust their forecast.... if at all.

Regardless, you can be rest assured that the VIPIR7 Weather Team will be on top of it all with the best weather technology around. Although I never 'hope' for a storm... I do look forward to showing off all our toys!

Finally, I know the weather section of WJHG.com is sub-par to say the least...  I can admit it.  I am happy to say that as I move down my to-do list that I have gotten to our weather website.  That will be a huge project for me next week... and maybe the week after as you will see a whole lot more content there!  I am really excited about it and I hope you enjoy it.  Once we are up and running please do not hesitate to contact me with any other content requests and I will do my best to oblige!

Have a safe weekend and if anything changes with Bonnie make sure to tune into Newschannel 7 as we will have the very latest.  Plus I will be posting updates as necessary on my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Have a safe weekend!
