New President... New Soccer Season!

"Bert, it's a little early to be talking about the Pirates, isn't it?" I hear you say. Not really, the first game will be in a few short months and there's a lot to do in preparation for the season.

Even now the Pirates' staff are working hard at signing and re-signing players for the new season, ensuring we have a stadium to watch them in and they also preparing to maintain the high standards they set on and off the field last season. As many fans know, Gavlak stadium was a somewhat contentious home ground. The school board wasn't that thrilled with having a soccer team playing at Arnold High and as I write I am not sure if the Pirates will be playing there this season, though given the change of leadership within the school system who knows?

I am in contact with a many of the players and it looks as though footy fans in Bay County are going to be enjoying worthwhile entertainment from some familiar faces again this May.

In the next few weeks I'll be getting you the latest information about returning players, old players and what they are doing now, and hopefully, new arrivals too.

With any luck I'll be able interview Head Coach Elliot (fingers crossed on that one!), some fan favourites like 'keeper Joe Nasco and local striker CD Harris and give you their views on Panama City, soccer in the United States and abroad among other things. If there is anything you would like to ask them drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.

Also I'll be looking to get the official Pirate's fan club, "The Dead Men" some more members before the first game so we can be more organized in supporting the Pirates from the first whistle of the season.

In my next blog I'll review last season, give an update on the team and maybe I'll even get one of those interviews!

Man am I ready for the new season to start. Worried that with the economy going in the toilet, so would the first year team. Let us know about the fan club and if we get a schedule. If we get our solid back line back together along with Joe, we should have a really solid season. Might be a lot to ask, but can you ask Coach E about his formations. He seems to ask a lot from his outside players on both ends of the field. Would love to hear what he expects from his players on the pitch. Here is to the upcoming season, a new and competent president, and better refs (still stings).

Hi Andrew, thank you for commenting. Spread the word, tell your friends and come along at the start of the season. Hopefully by then you'll be a part of a club that has a real community spirit. Look out for future updates on the fan club. Cheers!

Thanks for the update. There's always that field off Thomas Dr on McElvey, not sure who owns that though. Looking forward to seeing the Pirates get it going again, there are still a few things left to go over with the Kraze... ;) I'll raise one for the new guy in the WH and the Pirates upcoming season, here's to bigger and better things.
