I've noticed that there have been a lot of stabbings lately. One girl was stabbed in the face with a scalpel, another woman and her son were stabbed by a teen who apparently had romantic intentions with the woman's daughter, and just last night I heard about someone getting stabbed in the neck! (Surprisingly, he was in "good condition" on the way to the hospital.)
Anyway, there's been a noticeable spike (sorry) in stabbings, and it's got me wondering if it isn't just another symptom of the poor economy. In better days, these same incidents might have been shootings, or even contract killings, but now, maybe, even the criminals are reduced to doing it cheap and dirty themselves.
But maybe knives are just enjoying a resurgence in popularity - after all, the Springfield Police and EMTs responded to an e-mail sent late Sunday, from a woman claiming her boyfriend had just stabbed her. When police arrived, they found no victim, no witnesses - in fact, no women in the house at all! Apparently, it was a hoax, and the hoaxer chose to claim she'd been stabbed, rather than shot.
A strange trend, or an unusual coincidence? To me, it's all just more weird stuff that goes on Overnight.
