It's kind of an open-ended question. "What's on your mind?"  These days i'm not sure. I think the economy and making ends meet are consuming everyone's thoughts.

This morning I was in a local gas station, filling up my soft drink cup. There was a bit of a line and only one clerk behind the counter. As i walked up, she was asking some of the other employees to help out. I was about 8th in line. The man who was 3rd was going to buy a 12-pack of bottled water. But instead, he walked back to the display, placed it on the top of the pile and walked out. I guess he got tired of waiting. Just a few seconds later, two other workers joined the lone clerk. One of them, who happens to be the manager, was helping this woman, trying to buy gas, a drink and a package of some kind of snacks. This station is pre-pay, so the manager was asking the woman which pump. I didn't hear the woman's first response, but the manager asked her again, in a bit louder tone, "What pump number, ma'am?"  The customer just flew off the handle, screaming, "i don't know which (vulgar word goes here) pump it is." At that point, the manager pushed the woman's drink and snack away from the counter and told the woman to leave. The woman complied, but not without firing a volley of profanity at the clerks, for all of us to hear.

It was Friday, payday, so not much was going to get me down. But as I sat in my office later in the day, i couldn't help but wonder what made that woman snap over something so trivial. Why did the male customer put his water back on the shelf and leave? Had he been patient for just another 30 seconds, he would have walked out with the 12-pack. Instead, he had to drive to another store and probably wait in another line.

And this isn't an isolated incident. Think about some of the crazy, senseless acts we've reported in recent weeks. Folks just seem to be on edge a lot more these days. Is it the economy? Are some of them out of work? What's making us (at least some of us) a lot more touchy, impatient and intolerant these days?

I dunno, maybe it's just me. Maybe I've got too much on my mind. Now i ask you again, "What's on your mind?"

Panama Café on Hwy 98, also known as the old Howard Johnson’s, has been open for more years than some of us have been around. Owned by the Chapman’s, it was the favorite hide away for Joe Chapman. The staff has been almost completely unchanged for 10 years. Attracting locals looking for a quite breakfast, working class looking for a quick, inexpensive meal and snowbirds by the flock. This Sunday, 11/22/2009, they will turn their OPEN sign to CLOSED forever. Is this another sign of the economy? It does not look very hopeful for the smaller businesses if even this well established company can not keep their doors open.

I just moved to the area and while I am pleased with the personality and graciousness of everyone here I am disappointed in my living situation. This was supposed to be a new beginning, my family was paying the bills for a short amout of time but now our home is consumed by mold. It is everywhere, I am scared for my family, our heath has been adversly affected and I have no where to turn. I am so far away from everyone I know, I am not sure why my luck is so bad. Can I get a break?

The 5 men that poached the alligator at the state park are only going to get a slap on the wrist! why? Probably because the 5th man who killed the alligator, well his father is a deputy sheriff. Go to court, watch and see. This is sad. Not only did they kill the alligator, but they mutilated the alligator and left it for a tourist to find. that is panama citys main income. Must be nice to have daddies in high places. kill a alligator, then go on a nice 2- week fishing trip.

I vote yes, I think the Leaders should encourage the teachers to watch & listen to our President as he encourages our students. It is an honor and history being made.

At least Robert can get Brighthouse cable. Because I have 8 empty lots around mine Brighthouse won't even bring the cable 800 feet down the road to my house. I'm just one unimportant person they don't need as a customer.(The cable stops at another house 800 feet up the road)

L. Babb continued. She not only stole from the employer she also stole from the employees. These are commission paid employees. She would pocket their cash tips and part of their commission pay by voiding out some of the services and pocketing the money. Its not bad enough that she picks and employer, but also steals from all 10-15 employees. She is profiting well. I think what ever she has bought in the last year and her assets need to be sold so the owner and the employees can get restituition. Where is her husband in all of this. He must be her partner in crime. He ran with her when she left Indiana and came to Florida. This lady obviously is not going to stop if she did prison time and is still committing the crimes. The bail bonds man needs to revoke her bail for trying to run in Indiana.

Your signal on Brighthouse seems to come and go in windy weather.

I am sure that I am not the only one tired of the bad choices Congress keeps making. My mother and I created a way to do something about it! Check out our site: www.WeShouldFireCongress.com. We hope to be able to put up billboards that say "FIRE CONGRESS" in every city where a Congressman lives.

Here's the deal, everyone who is working is so stressed about the demands placed on them their expectations for personal service are sky high. While there's no excuse for the tirade of the woman who didn't know what pump she was on, I understand putting back the water. I'd have done the same thing, even if it had meant going to another store and waiting. Obviously the first store had too much business, and customer service like they demonstrated will sooner or later take care of the problem. When times are better people are more tolerant, when things are tight their expectations are higher. I know mine are. I only want to do business with those who are willing to hustle as much as I do in support of my clients.
