Bay County officials voted today to take possession of the former boot camp building. The vote comes after two years of negotiations with the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The county now owns the boot camp building and the 11th Street property underneath it. Earlier this year, DJJ agreed to give the building to the county in exchange for the land under the Juvenile Detention Center next door.

The county wants to use the boot camp building to house youth programs, like Guardian Ad Litem. Commissioners are happy the issue's been resolved.

Jerry Girvin, Bay County Commissioner, said, "It's a wonderful feeling. I thought the day would never come, and it's really good for both the state and the county. Now they own the dirt and building for one place and we own the dirt and building in another. We can both go ahead with plans without having to go back and forth, and anytime they make a change to their building they have to talk to us about it and so and so forth."

The county voted unanimously for the change.
