Monday will be the first day of school for some local students heading to the Emerald Coast Academy when the doors open for the first time.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this new alternative school was last June. Students struggling at other Bay County schools will be advised to attend Emerald Coast, which will be able to accommodate 324 students.
The goal is to help students get back on track and pass their classes. The school is located at the corner of Highway 98 and June Avenue near the Transportation Department.
