School Background Checks

As we've seen just recently with a young boy being kidnapped from a Marion County school, despite many security measures, people meaning to do children harm can still get on our campuses.

One local school hopes to secure its open campus even more by doing background checks on every visitor.

The program is called Raptor. Every visitor to Oscar Patterson Elementary hands over their id to the front desk for a background check. The id is scanned and then a screen pops up telling the school if the visitor is labeled as a sexual offender or a predator. If not then a visitor's badge prints out with your picture on it.

Teachers and parents say this is a great tool and the background checks only take about 60 seconds. Patterson used some of its magnet school funds to buy the system.
