Bay County Substitute Teacher Fired

Julie Bland was removed from the substitutes list last Friday. Although they will not specifically reveal the details of the complaint, school district officials say Bland had a sexually inappropriate conversation over a cell phone with a Mosley High School student.

Someone apparently overheard the conversation recently and eventually reported it to Mosley school officials last Thursday.

According to school district documents, Mosley Principal Bill Husfelt called the district's human resources director, Dr. Tommye Lou Richardson, and apprised her of the incident. That was followed up Friday morning with a letter from Husfelt to Richardson, asking that Bland be removed from the substitute list and barred from volunteering at any school district functions.

Richardson apparently investigated the incident, and Friday afternoon sent a letter to Superintendent James McCalister, recommending Bland's removal, which McCalister approved.

"In this case, we took action immediately and informed by a letter to the person that they need to return all our substitute badges that they had to get on our campuses and that sort of thing. All that was done," James McCallister, Superintendent of Bay District Schools, said.

Julie Bland had been a substitute teacher with the school district since July 2006.

You really that bored? Why not look at your own life and quite worrying about hers. Move on and mind your own darn business. Obviously the student had a mind of his own and went with it so get over it.The bad part of all this is a family is hurting not that YOU didnt give advice to the student. Sounds like your a self-centered type insider who really needs to GET A LIFE!

The "Someone apparently overheard the conversation" is referring to someone actually listening to multiple voicemails and reading multiple text messages that were indeed inappropriate. Whether they were inappropriate or not, Mrs. Bland should not have been calling or text ANY student in the first place. The bad part was i told this student that he needed to walk away and not be a part of it. "I told you so!"

I personally think all of you need to find something better to do with your time. That is the problem with small towns. People have nothing better to do than gossip and talk about other peoples personal business. Our country has more important things to worry about than this. GET A LIFE! I do not agree with the behavior but, he who is without sin cast the first stone. I guarantee that each of you judging her poor judgement have made mistakes in your life too. How would you feel it those mistakes were broadcast on TV. And besides this student was over 18. we are not talking about a child.

It seems to me that "very Typical", "lucyland", "JOHN", "bama", and "don't have the facts" are the same person posting on here. Same run-on sentences. Same grammatical errors. Same "political" nonsense. It must be Julie Bland herself trying to justify the situation. Why else would ANYONE try to defend this situation unless it was the perpetrator themselves. Only a person who desperately felt the need to defend themselves would try to justify an indefensible position.

People keep posting statements that this is "political." In what way? Why would the local beauracracy know who this woman is or care? She crossed ethical lines and was found out. End of story. I do hope she isn't sllowed to teach again. Here or anywhere! I can't believe she has kids in the same school this happened. Where does this woman live, a trailer park?

No facts in this article.....all hearsay. And exactly how does someone who overheard a conversation know that she was speaking to a Mosley High School student?
