Bay County Aims to Protect Students' rights on Campus

Other new language in school board policies approved Wednesday protects students' rights when dealing with law enforcement on campuses.

When questioning or searching students, administrators cannot have more than two law enforcement officers with them, unless officer-safety becomes an issue.

The school officials conducting and witnessing the questioning should also be the same gender as the student.

"I would like to ask that we do some kind of workshop with Surd’s and Sort’s,” said Bay County School Board Member, Donna Allen. “I think that it's way overdue because some of our policies have changed & they don't know all the things that we've changed & how they are to do things with our students."

Superintendent Bill Husfelt says he will make sure all the information is shared with administrators and officers.
