Panama City, FL – Bay District Schools middle and high school teachers and parents are invited to attend a symposium on the STEM Institute, which will take place again this summer. STEM, an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, is a joint effort among Naval Support Activity-Panama City, FSU-PC, Gulf Coast Community and Bay, Gulf and Holmes school districts.
The symposium will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the new building at FSU-PC in the Community Room. At 6:30 teachers and students will demonstrate robotics skills they learned at the STEM Institute last summer and talk about their experience with the program. There will be discussion to follow at 7 p.m. with the retired Navy base Technical Director, Dr. David Skinner, and other engineers who are part of the program.
The STEM institute is funded entirely by the Naval Defense Education Program and aims to draw more student interest in math and sciences. Engineers from the local Navy base offer professional development as they work with teachers at the summer institutes where students are also invited to participate.
