Applications for the Dr. Sue G. Cochran Scholarship are available at the Cedar Grove Elementary School office, the school Website, high school guidance offices, and Gulf Coast Community College Financial Aid Office. The deadline for applying is March, 13, 2009.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be a full-time college student or plan to attend full time at Gulf Coast Community College in the fall of 2009, maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average, and must have attended Cedar Grove Elementary for at least one year.
The Dr. Sue G. Cochran Scholarship to Gulf Coast Community College is in honor of Dr. Cochran who is a former teacher and principal at Cedar Grove Elementary School. The Cedar Grove Student Council earned $10,000 in five years and in 1990 endowed the Dr. Sue Cochran Scholarship at Gulf Coast Community College. Seventy-four scholarships have been awarded since 1991.
Funding for the scholarship is provided by the endowment as well as money earned from Cedar Grove's recycling program. The recycling program teaches students the value of recycling and emphasizes the importance of college. The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each scholarship are dependent upon the amount of money raised by the recycling program that is coordinated by Cedar Grove staff and students.
