Bay District Support Staff To Be Reduced

Bay County School Superintendent Bill Husfelt is moving forward with plans to restructure the District's support staff. Husfelt says last year 703 1/2 support employees worked for the District, including transportation, maintenance, food service and Nelson Building employees, among others. The new organizational chart will cut the number of support staff down to about 450. The number of staff in the Nelson Administrative Building is being cut by more than half.

"It's not that we're wanting to fire people. That's not what it's about. It's about we've got to put our money where our mouth is and our mouth should be in the schools," said Bill Husfelt, Bay Co. School Superintendent.

Board Members approved Husfelt's recommendations for advertisement. In 30 days they'll take a final vote.

People of Panama City, you are about to loose your school teachers to other states. And then, kids will give up on schools, more violence will take over, more kids in jail. Kids today do not really have any goals. They think that they don't need school to be successful or at all, if they can get disability, medicare, welfare and food stamps with no problem and for as long as they want, in Florida and believe me, they really can. Girls only have to have a baby to get it all, with no effort. Loosing teachers only decreases the chance of the children to get and stay ahead. Were going to only have the associates degree or Florida Certification only teachers left. And with the Florida Certification only teachers, most of these people started out as helpful parents, not qualified with a college degree. We already have teachers teaching out of their fields. Charge people to allow their kids to attend all schools, including the public ones. That will send a powerful statement to people.
