Fee for Additional Pre-K Hours Going Up Slightly

Some Bay County parents will be paying slightly higher fees for Pre-K next school year. The state mandates the first 3 hours of Pre-K are free for all children, but parents have the opportunity to pay extra for their children to stay 3 additional hours. Wednesday School Board members approved a fee increase of $5 a week for the 2009-2010 school year. This will bring the cost of additional hours of pre-k to 55-dollars per week. The Board has not raised the fee for Pre-K in 3 years.

"$55 in my opinion is pretty cheap. You couldn't get them in a daycare for that price," said Lendy Willis, Executive Director of Curriculum of Instructional Services.
