Hiland Park - This week's Golden Apple award-winning teacher team teaches fifth grade at Bay Haven Charter Academy. Her students tell us Mrs. Lovett has been known to break out in song mid-lesson and teaches her students clever ways to remember difficult concepts. It was student Tyler Grice who nominated her for this week's Golden Apple award.
"You just have to go into the classroom to watch her. She teaches with her entire heart and soul, it just exudes, it comes out of her. Every lesson is an important lesson, every child is an important child to her," said principal Larry Bolinger.
It's easy see why Mrs. Lovett's students adore this enthusiastic and passionate teacher. "When we come to class she always has a smile on her face," said Tyler Grice, who nominated Mrs. Lovett.
That smile got even bigger when we surprised her with the Golden Apple award. Mrs. Lovett says watching her students learn is a reward in itself. "I love to share information with them and to see them totally understand a concept or American history which is my favorite thing to teach. My goal is to teach them to be good citizens. Just to show them how wonderful it is to be in a country like America."
Her enthusiasm for her craft is contagious and intentional. "My philosophy is to make learning fun at all times. Even though the concepts or the skills may not be fun, I feel there is always a concept I can bring that will get them excited about their learning," said Mrs. Lovett. "She simplifies it, she explains it in a whole different way. It is really, really good and really, really fun," said student Josh Wendall. "When we are stuck on a problem she explains it very well. If we don't get a problem she helps us get it," said student Gracie Wirrick.
Congratulations to Mrs. Lovett, this week's Golden Apple award-winning teacher. "I believe with all my heart that she deserves it," said Wendall.
