GRACEVILLE- This week's Golden Apple award winner teaches 4th grade at Graceville Elementary School. Debra Miles was nominated by a parent who writes: "She is a caring teacher. She goes above and beyond to help her students and she does not get the credit that she deserves."
In Mrs. Miles 4th grade classroom, students are in the midst of a scientific scavenger hunt. It's just one of the many ways this lifelong learner makes the challenging, fun. "She is very inquisitive and she encourages her children to explore the world around them, to ask how things work and why they work," said Graceville Elementary School Principal Petey Sims. "I love learning and so I just think it emanates out to the kids," said Debbie Miles.
Colleagues call her an innovator who equips her students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. "It's still a passion for me. I love learning," said Mrs. Miles. And she is instilling that love in her students. "I love coming to school because I want to learn," said 4th grader Caleb Gilbert. "She helps you get through stuff you don't know how to do," said Madison Isaak. "I hope they develop a love of just the world around them," said Mrs. Miles.
Congratulations to Mrs. Miles, this week's golden apple award winning teacher. "I love my teacher," said Chandler King.
