Panama City - Tuesday was the official beginning of Gulf Coast State College.
For over 50 years, Gulf Coast State College has served the Panama City area with higher education opportunities.
The celebration involved students and staff as well as plenty of cake, ice cream, bouncy houses even a dunking booth. Hundreds braved the heat to take part in the commemoration.
“You’re going to have a dozen bachelor degree programs which are going to be diversified from certificate programs, to Associate Degree programs, to bachelor degree programs” said Dr. Jim Kerley, Gulf Coast State College President.
The addition of four year degree programs has excited numerous students across campus.
“It might change the atmosphere for a lot of other people seeking the bachelor degree programs that they’re offering” said Shardae Guest, student at GCSC.
The college is expanding programs to generate new money. President Kerley says, next year more four-year programs will be added to the curriculum beginning with Nursing. He went on to say, the college’s main mission is to prepare students to enter the workforce and get better jobs.
