Panama City - A children's author with a Hollywood connection is speaking at several Bay District Schools as part of "Read Across America Week."
Before becoming an author, Dr. Kimberly Greene taught child actors on set as a studio teacher. She says many of her students had a bad attitude about education which motivated her to write books with a positive message.
During her presentation at Deerpoint Elementary today she explained to students that while many might think Hollywood is all glitz and glam, she knows firsthand it's not.
She says her books reinforce education, friendship, and family, all while encouraging readers to think for themselves. She says her books are written from two perspectives so the whole brain is used. "It creates the opportunity for the kids to make their own decisions about how they feel about these things rather than me giving them the "this is how you should feel" and that is what it is all about, thinking for yourself," said Dr. Greene.
During her visit to Bay County Greene will speak at 5 elementary schools.
