The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College is excited to present the Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” based off the book by Rachel Sheinkin and vibrant musical score by William Finn.

The story focuses on an eclectic group of awkward mid-pubescent students as they vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. The production is a fast-paced crowd pleaser with audience participation, making it an instant theatre favorite.

The cast consists of nine current GCSC students including Ben Whitmer, Amy Tinch, Haythem Smith, Tyler Kent, Charis Walker, Savannah C. Wambo, Danyelle Kirchoff, Christian Paris and Christian Becerra. The production is directed and choreographed by Hank Rion, Assistant Professor of Theatre, and musical direction by Carissa Hosea, Associate Professor of Music.

All performances will be held in the Amelia Center Theatre on the Main Campus.
Friday and Saturday evening performances will be held April 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday matinee performances will be held April 8 and 15 at 2:30 p.m.
General admission tickets are $20 and $10 for high school students, military and seniors. Advanced tickets can be purchased at www.gulfcoast.edu/arts.
GCSC and FSU PC students, faculty and staff are admitted free with a valid ID.
