US-98 closed between Moates and Danford Ave. through Monday morning commute

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - U.S. Highway 98 will remained closed between Moates Ave. and Danford Ave. in Panama City until at least 7 a.m. Monday.

Panama City Police say a U-Haul truck hit a power pole near the Kangaroo gas station overnight.

Police say a family was moving to the area, driving three U-Hauls. The third truck crashed into a power pole around 2 a.m., knocking it over.

The truck and power pole caught fire, but the family got out in time and no one was injured.

Police confirmed to NewsChannel 7 that the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Police are asking drivers to use 23rd St. instead on their morning commute. They'll divert westbound traffic up Michigan Ave. and eastbound drivers through 19th St.

Gulf Power is assessing the damage and will determine when it's safe to re-open the road. Check back on this page for updates.
