PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay County's economy continues to grow and now it's getting another boost.
The Bay County Economic Development Alliance has two new projects in the works. One is a medical call center and the other is an aircraft parts manufacturing plant.
Those could bring about 500 jobs to the area.
They also announced Eastern Shipbuilding has gotten another big contract at Wednesday's meeting. They've been chosen to build three new vessels for the Staten Island ferry system in New York.
This, along with the Coast Guard contract, is expected to have a big impact on the local economy.
"The announcement with Eastern is a tremendously successful story for Bay County and it's going to pay very positive benefits for a long time," explained EDA President Becca Hardin. "They're going to be creating up to a thousand jobs, and for every one job that is created in a manufacturing environment there is a possibility of spin-off of four more jobs in our community."
In addition to creating local jobs the contract is expected to bring in people from other areas as well.
