According to the Florida Highway Patrol, they say the pilot was trying to make an emergency landing just after 1 p.m. when the plane lost power for an unknown reason and crashed onto the south shoulder of State Road 20 just west of State Road 77.

The pilot, James McLeod, 32, and his passenger, Erin McLeod, 31, were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries but in stable condition.

Both are from Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Troopers tell us the plane is an Aero Commander m200.
