PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A new restaurant is hoping to shake things up in Panama City. A Steak 'N Shake restaurant is set to open.
"What can you say about Steak 'n Shake except it's great!" John Wyatt, a Panama City local said.
The Steak 'n Shake restaurant will be located next to Best Buy on 23rd Street.
"I like their cookies and cream shake," Natalia Estrada said. She recently moved to Panama City from Orlando.
Panama City officials say Steak 'n Shake developers are waiting for permits to be approved before they can begin construction. Developers tells us the restaurant will look like other Steak 'n Shakes, but with a modern twist.
In May, NewsChannel 7 reported that Cracker Barrel would be opening in Panama City as well.
"Not only is the breakfast good, but the overall, just the food is good for an evening meal or lunch time," Wyatt said.
Cracker Barrel will open its doors at Bay City Point on the corner of 23rd street and Highway 77. Other restaurants coming are Which Wich, Dunkin Donuts and Chick-fil-A.
Some locals say chains aren't the only thing they'd like to see more of.
"I guess so coming from the Orlando area. I mean since I've only been here a month exploring," Estrada said, "I've been finding a lot of different things. I like trying out like local restaurants not so much like chains."
Others say these chains are a sign of more changes to come.
"Panama City is definitely growing. I understand that the highways are gonna be four lane. 231 is gonna be expanded and that's gonna bring more business and more people to this area," Wyatt said.
Currently, the nearest Steak 'n Shake locations are in Pensacola and Tallahassee. Developers for Steak 'n Shake tells us they're hoping to open the Panama City location by January.
