PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Downtown Panama City turned into a haven for music lovers Friday night as singer-songwriters showed off their talent in a contest.

The Downtown Improvement Board hosted a competition at The Place Downtown. Participants came from as far away as Tampa to be a part of the competition.

Singer-songwriter and music producer Jesse Rice started off the show playing "Cruise," a song he wrote with Florida Georgia Line.

"They put their heart and soul into this and they just love it," Kristy Groves, Executive Director of the Downtown Improvement Board said. "This is everything that they want to be and this type of competition that gives them the platform to possibly have that big break that they've been looking for, for so long."

Rice and Groves were judges for the competition along with Owner of Mosey's Downtown, Judd Manuel.

There were two winners chosen, Lurano Lightbourne and Jesselyn Dudinsky. Both are from Panama City Beach.

The winners will get to perform at the One Harrison Food and Wine Festival on August 11th.
