PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG) - Good evening everyone!
A few lingering showers and thunderstorms hovering around I-10 in Okaloosa and Walton counties this evening after seeing scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. This shower activity will continue to dwindle down as we have lost the daily heating of the atmosphere. I expect dry conditions overnight tonight with partly cloudy skies and lows in the low to mid 70's.
The next few days will be a similar pattern with coastal showers and storms in the morning, turning into afternoon showers and thunderstorms for the inland areas as the sea breeze pushes inland. The reason for this shower and thunderstorm activity is an upper level trough, that is currently sitting over the Northeast, will continue to move to the south. As this does so, it will weaken the upper level ridge currently over us. This will aide in shower and thunderstorm development when we get the daily heating of the atmosphere. So expect this pattern to continue tomorrow through Wednesday.
As we head into the end of the work week and into the weekend, that ridge of high pressure in the upper levels will build back in over the panhandle. This will bring back drier and sunnier conditions to Northwest Florida. Rain chances will be on the lower end and sunshine on the increase. But that will heat us up into the low to mid 90's!
Have a wonderful Sunday!
