BCSO: Freeport student arrested at Bozeman for having knives in backpack

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Freeport student at Deane Bozeman School Friday morning for having weapons on campus. Deputies say the student was at Bozeman for a track meet.

Deputies say Freeport High School administrators contacted their track team coach after being made aware of a Snapchat photo posted by one of the team members, Daniel Solis, 16. They say the post caused other students to feel threatened and administrators believe the student might have a firearm with him.

Deputies say the Freeport coach reached out the the Bozeman School Resource Deputy who spoke with the Solis. They say Solis admitted to posted the picture and message on Snapchat, but said he did not intend to hurt anyone. He said the firearm in the photo was a BB gun. Deputies say he also admitted to having two knives with him in a backpack on the bus.

Deputies found the knives, a large hunting knife and a golden colored switchblade. Solis claims it was his hunting backpack and he brought it by accident.

Solis was arrested and charged with two felony counts of possessing a weapon on school property.
