Bay District Schools leaders impressed with Chromebooks' condition

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - As some Bay District middle schoolers are preparing to pack their bags and get ready for the 2017-2018 school year, they will have well-kept Chromebooks to look forward to.

Britt Smith, Jinks Middle School's principal, said Chromebooks were introduced to Surfside and Jinks middle schools in January 2017.

While middle schools are redistributing those Chromebooks, some school leaders are impressed with how well students maintained their condition.

"Our students became extremely motivated to learn because they had this tool. They had a resource that allowed them to do that, a tool many of them didn't have before the Chromebooks were brought along," Principal Smith said.

Smith said he believes students have taken pride in their Chromebooks and use them as resources even outside of the classroom.

According to Smith, Mowat and Merritt Brown middle schools will also receive Chromebooks this upcoming school year.

He explained with each coming school year, Bay District Schools hopes to get a Chromebook in every middle schooler's hands.
