Bay District Schools now accepting school choice applications

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (Bay District Schools Press Release) - The School Choice window for application for the 2017-18 school year is now open. School Choice applications will be accepted through March 31, 2017, at 4:30 p.m.

School Choice applications are taken online. Applicants should go to https://focus.bayschools.net/focus/, log in to the Parent Portal account, and follow the instructions provided there.

Parents must have a Parent Portal account with accurate home address information in order to view student information and to submit a School Choice application. Parents who need to set up a Parent Portal account should go to www.bay.k12.fl.us/Parents/Portal.aspx or get information at the student's zoned school.

A School Choice application is required from any parent whose student meets one of the following criteria:

~ student has moved out of the current school zone this school year, but wishes to remain at current school (Parent Portal must be updated with the new address, and two proofs of new address provided at the student's current school before proceeding with the School Choice application.);

~ wants to change student's current school;

~ has a child entering Kindergarten for the first time and wishes to attend a school other than the zoned school (Pre-K students entering Kindergarten must register at the zoned school before completing the application);

~ has a child entering Bay District Schools for the first time in grades 1 through 12 and wishes to attend a school other than the zoned school. (Must register at zoned school before completing the School Choice application).

The following schools are closed to out-of-zone School Choice for the 2017-2018 school year:

Elementary Schools:
Breakfast Point (KG-5th grade)
Cedar Grove
Deer Point
Lynn Haven
Northside
Patronis
Tyndall
Waller

Middle Schools:
Merritt Brown
Mowat

Regarding high school advanced academic programs, currently enrolled Bay District students who have been accepted into a high school advanced academic program do not need to submit a School Choice application. High school students who have not previously been enrolled in a Bay District School, but have been accepted into an advanced academic program, may enroll directly at the host school for the advanced academic program.

Out-of-county students are not eligible for School Choice. They are required to apply annually to attend Bay District Schools. The out-of-county packet will be available online at www.bay.k12.fl.us in June, with notification being sent in August prior to the start of school.
