Bay High School Band headed to Canada for music festival

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The "Million Dollar Band" is headed to Canada.

Bay High School's band left early Tuesday morning to head to Canada and perform in the Con Brio International Music Festival.

The band will spend a few days in Seattle and Vancouver discovering the cities, before heading to Whistler, Canada.

Band Director Nicholas Efstathiou says he hopes the trip will be a cultural experience for the students. "I think it's really important that we teach the whole kid and not teach just band or just music," he said. "You know, music and band is really all about overcoming adversity and that's what we really teach and music is a by-product of what we teach."

The band is the only team from the United States performing in the festival.

The band will have individual performances along with one big performance with the other bands.
