'Catch a Cool Cat' adoption event helps cats, kittens and canines find forever homes

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Heartland Rescue Ranch helped some cats and canines find their forever homes Sunday.

Staff and volunteers from the ranch spent their afternoon at the Pet Supermarket on Back Beach Road, but they didn't come alone.

A variety of cats, kittens and canines joined them for their 'Catch a Cool Cat' adoption event.

Heartland Rescue Ranch founder, Amy Shepherd, tell us many of the animals at the ranch were rescued from a hoarding situation.

"These animals came from a hoarding situation here in Bay County. About 7 or 8 weeks ago, we pulled 28 animals out of a gentleman's home. He was a former breeder. Most of them were kept in very small cages. Sammy, for example, was kept in a cat carrier his entire life. So he's just coming out of his shell and his cage and learning how to socialize and to love and to be loved," Shepherd said.

While the cats and dogs that were showcased at Sunday's event are looking for a loving home, there are over 80 animals at the ranch who are also in need.

Heartland volunteers tell us the majority of the animals are spayed, neutered and ready to be adopted.

Head to the Heartland Rescue Ranch website for an online application to adopt.
