Chipola River "pirate" sentenced to 30 years

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - One Marianna man has learned his fate after being convicted of armed robbery and grand theft.

Twenty-seven-year-old Patrick Ellingburg has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after robbing multiple people in Jackson County in June 2016.

Jackson County deputies say Ellingburg and then 21-year-old Matthew Pettis took a boat down the Chipola River and robbed people of their cell phones and jewelry.

During the robbery, Ellingburg fired his weapon at one of the victims.

The jury took less than 30 minutes to come to a decision.
