New Colony Club Road will ease traffic and give drivers a safer option

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A road project in Panama City Beach that's been in the works since 2014 is now 75 percent complete.

The soon-to-be Colony Club road is being built off Back Beach Road, across from Nautilis Street. It will connect to Fairway Boulevard, just south of Eagle Drive.

Panama City Beach Councilman Phil Chester said the new road is expected to ease traffic and give Colony Club residents a more convenient way to get in and out of their neighborhood. More importantly, he said it'll create a safer intersection for drivers to use.

"The main idea that got me started on this was a safety issue. There's a lot of teenagers, upcoming young drivers in this neighborhood and trust me, I've been on the other end of waiting on that text to make sure your child's at school. To make sure your son got to school safely and waiting on that text, 'Hey dad, I'm here.' That's one of the things that really gets you," Chester said.

Chester also said the infrastructure is done, the utilities are in and the sidewalks are underway.

The estimated completion date is in mid-June.
