Commissioners address Spring Break turnout

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay County commissioners addressed this year's spring break season at the commission meeting Tuesday morning.

They say aside from the recent crime, it was a calm season with business on the rise.

Commissioner Philip "Griff" Griffitts said Panama City Beach is on the right track to becoming safer and is attracting more families to the area.

"We did have a certain element on the beach that probably wasn't what we and the business would want, but it is a tourism destination and we're going to get all types down here and we do the best we can, but overall the spring was great. I think businesses on the beach have survived the worst and we're climbing the hill now, we're going to get past all this," Griffitts said.

Griffitts also said police handled the violence on the beach very efficiently. He expects an even more family-oriented turnout next year.
