MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - For Zac West, having a gallery dedicated to his work is exciting.
West, who lives in New York, is the costume designer for the upcoming Chipola College Production, "Hello Dolly."
"I am in charge of basically getting someone into a character," West said. "I'm there to assist in what they need to develop these characters."
A gallery in the Dr. Gene Prough Center for the Arts at Chipola College features some of the costumes West has worked on for Chipola College over the past three years.
"We're very lucky to have a professional Broadway designer come in and do some work for us," Chipola College Director of Theatre Charles Sirmon said.
"Around the gallery there's lots and lots of research that I had to do to try and find out what the silhouette was, and what the time period was," West said.
West said a big part of his job is making sure to stay true to what the director envisions for the show.
For "Hello Dolly," that meant brightly colored, extravagant costumes.
"He's done an excellent, excellent job," Sirmon said." He's still growing as a young designer in New York, but we're so proud to be able to have some of his work come to Chipola and locally, to
share with other people around here who have not seen professional costumes being produced and made."
West said seeing his work all in one place
"It's actually kinda crazy in a way to look around and go, 'oh yeah, I guess I did do that piece,'" he said.
The gallery is open through April 2.
"Hello Dolly" runs February 22 through February 28.
