At the water's edge near The Gulf Place in South Walton, more than 100 people gathered to plunge into the water for the fourth annual Polar Plunge!

Proceeds from the event benefit the South Walton Fire Department's Relations Committee which buys fire and safety gear for educational programs they hold throughout the year.

This year's Polar Plunge raised more than $3,500.

Despite the rough weather and rougher waves, they went on with the plunge with plenty of life guards on hand. Fire Marshal Sammy Sanchez said they used the rough water as a way to educate people about rip currents.
