PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP)-- Prosecutors are ramping up the number of charges against an ex-tutor accused of having sex with a student.
Matthew Hale, 29, of Panama City, is now being charged with a total of three counts of lewd and lascivious battery, two counts of traveling to meet a minor for sexual activity and a single count of solicitation of a minor for sexual conduct.
Hale was employed as a tutor with Bay District Schools but resigned shortly before being arrested on a single charge of lewd and lascivious battery in October 2016.
According to the Bay County Sheriff's Office, Hale worked in various schools throughout the district as a tutor when he met the victim during the 2015-2016 school year.
Investigators say after the school year ended, Hale and the victim stayed in touch. The relationship turned sexual in nature in August. The victim told investigators they had sex once and that they had stayed in touch since the incident.
According to an arrest affidavit, Hale declined to provide a statement to investigators in reference to the report.
After more investigations following Hale's initial arrest, prosecutors have decided to increase the number of charges against him. The victim is the same in all of the charges.
