Experimental plane crashes in Okaloosa County

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says a man from Baker, Florida, is alive after the plane he was piloting crashed Friday morning.

According to OSCO, it happened about 11 a.m. near Sky Ranch airstrip, which sits east of 189 northwest of Crestview.

The pilot, whose name wasn't released, was alert and conscious when taken to a hospital in Ft. Walton Beach after the crash.

According to a posting on the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, "witnesses say they heard the engine sputtering prior to the crash landing. There were no reports of a fire and the pilot had pain, but amazingly no visible injuries."

The FAA has been contacted about the crash.
