ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to Florida Highway Patrol, charges are pending for a Pensacola man after he reportedly collided with a traffic control pole with four minors, between the ages of 7 and 14, in the car.
Troopers said the group was heading northbound on Perdido Key Drive in Escambia County Friday night.
They said Jeffery Touzet, 47, entered the left turn lane and took an immediate right to turn onto Gulf Beach Highway.
According to FHP officials, the car ran off the roadway to the right, causing the front of of the car to collide with a traffic control pole and then catching on fire.
The driver and passengers were reportedly able to exit the car and were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers said witnesses told them that the driver was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed, passing cars on the bridge in a no passing zone.
FHP officials said charges are pending the results of a warrant blood draw.
