OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to Florida Highway Patrol, multiple people were injured in an early morning accident in Okaloosa County Sunday.
Troopers said a silver Lexus SUV traveled onto the south shoulder and then back across the roadway and through the median, while heading east on U.S. Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island.
They said the Lexus SUV then entered the inside westbound lane, still traveling eastbound.
Two vehicles swerved to avoid the collision, but a third vehicle, a Nissan Altima, reportedly collided head-on with the Lexus SUV.
According to FHP, the crash had the westbound lanes blocked until 5:45 am. Both drivers and the passengers, from Mississippi, of the Nissan were taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
The driver of the Nissan reportedly had critical injuries. The front passenger of the Nissan was partially ejected through the windshield and is said to be in serious condition.
FHP officials said the other passengers of the Nissan are also in serious condition. The driver of the Lexus SUV is in minor condition. The case is still under investigation.
