BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, which means you may have already started thinking about your meal plan for Turkey Day.
The Florida Department of Health has food safety tips to avoid food contamination.
To prevent food contamination, the health department recommends people wash their hands, utensils, and surfaces before cooking.
Countertops and working surfaces can be cleaned with hot soapy water.
Officials said people should cook food at a proper temperature and read the directions on the packaging before preparing food.
When refrigerating or freezing perishables and leftovers, people should do so within two hours.
The health department also warns of cross contamination and to keep raw meats, eggs, and their juices away from ready-to-eat food.
