GCSO celebrates Pi with pie

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Who doesn't like a little pie? Well, a few local professors got a little more than they bargained for Tuesday.

Wednesday is National Pi Day, the mathematical pi that is, and to celebrate, Gulf Coast State College's mathematics division had a little fun with it.

For a dollar, students, faculty, and staff cast their votes for their favorite professor. The lucky ones with the most votes got a nice pie, to the face.

"It just gets the word out about mathematics and you can see we have a great department, everybody is really fun and kind of a pleasure to be around. Kind of break that traditional mold of what people think about when they see math professors," GCSC assistant professor of mathematics, Connie Campbell said.

All donations will benefit the commodores care initiative that gives opportunities for employees and students to get involved in volunteering and community efforts.

This year they raised a little more than $500 to help pay for a community breakfast for those in need.
