Georgia crews search for missing Panama City man in Lake Lanier

LAKE LANIER, Ga. (WJHG/WECP) - Officials in Georgia continue to search for a Panama City man who went missing from a pontoon boat Saturday. It happened near Three Sisters Island on Lake Lanier north of Atlanta, Georgia. They report they're searching for Kevin Husum, 23.

According to officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at about 6 p.m. Saturday the department's rangers, sheriff's deputies and fire crews from Hall and Forsyth Counties responded to a boating incident. They report witnesses said they saw someone fall off of a pontoon boat, went under and did not resurface.

Police arrested the operator of the pontoon boat, Kenneth Toller of Cumming Georgia. He was arrested for Boating Under the Influence and was taken to the Forsyth County Jail.

Officials report they'll be doing a thorough investigation into the incident that might last several weeks.

DRN rangers and sheriff's deputies report they are continuing with surface searches and sonar equipment, but report there are challenges because the search area is large and the water is between 40 and 80 feet deep.

Husum graduated from Bay High School in 2011. He played baseball on the varsity team for four years before graduating and moving on to play for Gulf Coast State College. After two years there, he finished his college career at James Madison University.
