Governor Rick Scott swears in Jimmy Patronis, Jr. as Florida's Chief Financial Officer

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Governor Rick Scott came to Panama City Beach Monday morning to officially appoint and swear in Jimmy Patronis, Jr. as Florida's new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Governor Scott made the announcement at Captain Anderson's restaurant in Panama City Beach, which Patronis helped his family run.

Patronis is a long time Bay County resident and was a member of the Florida legislature for eight years. Scott later appointed him to the Public Service Commission.

Patronis also backed Scott during his initial run for governor seven years ago.

Governor Scott says the experience Patronis has as a legislator made him a strong candidate, but his work as a small business owner really sealed the deal.

Patronis will replace Jeff Atwater as the CFO, who was first elected in 2010. Atwater is reportedly resigning from the job before his term is over to become a vice president at Florida Atlantic University.
