Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center opens newly expanded emergency room

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Monday marked a milestone in the emergency room expansion project at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center

It has taken 18 months to complete phase one of a $13.3 million dollar, three-phase expansion project.

The capacity of the new emergency room facility increased from 31 to 44 beds.

Another major change for this phase was moving the ambulance entrance. Walk-in patients will still use the original entrance on the southeast side of the hospital.

Along with new rooms comes new technology, new equipment for the rooms, and, of course, increased staffing.

A major improvement expected for patients will be the wait times.

During construction of the next two phases hospital officials plan on using as many local businesses as possible to completed the project.
