PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Many say Gulf World Marine Institute in Panama City Beach has done exceptional work to help preserve the aquatic environment in our area and Friday, it was recognized for it.
Gulf World received the National Association of Underwater Instructors Environmental Enrichment Award.
Local scuba instructor and boat captain Danny Grizzard accepted the award on Gulf World's behalf at the NAUI awards ceremony, and presented the award to the Marine Institute's president Friday.
Ron Hardy, the Board of Directors Chair of Gulf World Marine Institute
said, "It's for the effort for the environment and particularly for helping animals and if you look at the plaque it talks about what Gulf World and Gulf World Marine Institute has done for stranded animals through the years."
Gulf World has been involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sea turtles and marine mammals since the 1970s.
