DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Walton County Sheriff's officials reported Tuesday that a gun was found on a Maude Saunders Elementary School bus on Friday, December 1.
Officials say a student told the bus driver they saw the gun in another student's bag. They say the gun was not loaded and the child had no ammunition.
Sheriff's officials say they have "no reason to believe the student had malicious intent when bringing the weapon to school."
This incident is still under investigation and the family was contacted. Any punishment will be handled by the Walton County School District.
“At no time during this investigation did we believe there was a threat to the school or that an arrest was necessary,” said Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson.
