MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - After several state titles, some Marianna coaches saw the need for a celebration.
Hope School athletes, staff, and parents gathered in the school's gym Thursday morning to celebrate the school's athletic successes.
Among those honored were the JV basketball team, the skills team, and the volleyball team.
The volleyball team is new this year. Next month, they'll travel to Orlando to compete in the state Special Olympic games.
"We try to help them, you know, by doing different stuff," said Thunderbirds Coach Amos Spires. "Like you know, healthy stuff like that and with the PE coach we try to do numerous things to help our kids out. They're special like that and we care for them."
Each athlete received a trophy with their name and position on it.
Coach Spires even surprised each of his JV basketball players with their own letter jackets.
