Local church fights hunger by distributing 5,000 pounds of food

MILLVILLE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A local church congregation is doing its part to fight hunger in Bay County.

The Fellowship Church of Praise in Millville spent Saturday giving out food to the community.

The church had 5,000 pounds of food to give away, distributed in packs for every size family.

It's the fourth year that the church has done the giveaway. Church elder Destiny Young said there's a big need for the service in this area.

"Almost every day we get a call from the church of somebody just needing food," Young said. "Not money for extravagant things, but just basic food and so it's a great contribution and it's a really big need for people here in Bay County."

The Fellowship Church of Praise is an agency of Feeding the Gulf Coast. The event kicked off its monthly distribution, which happens on the third Saturday of the month from April through September.
