Lynn Haven ranked one of the safest cities in Florida

LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to a report from The National Council for Homeland Safety and Security, Lynn Haven ranked 41 when it comes to safety in Florida cities with a population more than 10,000.

“We are very proud of our Lynn Haven Police Department. They do a tremendous job—both on and off duty, to keep the citizens of Lynn Haven safe,” City Manager Michael White commented in a press release. “Our highly trained men and women continue to make me stand in awe when I hear about the courageous acts they perform every day to keep our community safe.”

The National Council for Home Safety and Security (NCHSS) is a trade association comprised of home security professionals across the United States.

NCHSS members said they reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics, population data and internal research information.

“We are ecstatic about the ranking, but, much of our success is because of the great partnership our Police Department has developed with this community," Lynn Haven’s Chief of Police Matt Reimer said. "I don’t see how we could have achieved this ranking without the citizens of Lynn Haven.”

The cities were ranked according to the number of violent crimes: aggravated, murder, rape and robbery and property crimes, which included burglary, arson larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. Lynn Haven’s crime report average 3.59 per 1000 of violent crimes, and 21.42 per 1,000 of property crimes during 2017. This is lower than the national average.

The report was released Monday.

Niceville came in at 42 and Fort Walton Beach ranked 61 in the same study.
